So last night Norm and I were walking to the subway, and as usual I was complaining the entire way about work, insurance, and the cost of the eye appointment I had earlier that day. As we walked onto the platform to wait for our train I couldn't help but notice a young blind girl who was feeling her way along the wall with her stick, looking pretty confused because she had found herself between a big garbage can and a metal railing. I helped her get through the turnstile and ever since then I've just had an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for so many comforts that I take for granted. It was definitely one of those "I cried because I had no shoes until I saw a man who had no feet" kind of eye-opening situations. Can you imagine what kinds of things that poor girl has to feel her way through in this city? What a brave soul -- she was in the subway for crying out loud!! Last night Norm and I were trying to figure out how she knows what train she's getting on, and where to get off. Wow.

One, I am totally loving your new coat! It is so cute! And two, I am just like you...I am definitely one of those people who forget about the important things from time to time, and become selfish thinking my lot is so hard. Great eye opener! Thanks for sharing!
hey bum us out why dont cha.
Maybe you are in NY to help people like her or . . . . maybe she is there to help you.
I like your new coat but I am crazy about your Minnie Mouse shoes. Priceless!
Rach!!!! Such an insightful post! Long time no talk!! I was so so excited to hear from you! I know I have to admitt also that I was never going to join the blogging world. It seemed just like a year round christmas card to me, but I gave in a few months ago because I felt like I had lost touch with everyone. Well sounds like things are going well for you guys in new york. I absolutely love your coat and craftyness! You are quite the quilter! Well lets keep in touch. I've miss ya!!
You are so helpful.
Now isn't this the truth! Just when I feeling bogged down by the germy bodies and mindless thoughts of seventh graders...Rach to the rescue again! Amazing story...and way better than all of those "inspirational" e-mail forwards I get all day!
